The Kirkwood Urban Forest and Community Garden says a lot about this neighborhood that was established in 1899. Five parks are maintained within Kirkwood: Gilliam, Coan, Bessie Branham, Oakview 1 and 2, and the Dekalb Memorial. The historic homes are classic interpretations of Victoria Craftsman and Traditional Style. A bike path and sidewalks provide options for fun, fitness or to get to the neighborhood school, retail stores and restaurants. Kirkwood also is home to Hawthorne Park and the Pullman Yard development.
