This progressive city with a small-town feel is its own city. Decatur is trendy, home to Devry University and considered a mixed-use district. Home styles are diverse, but ranches and ranch colonials are prominent on the large lots throughout the city established at intersection of two Native American trails: the Sandtown and the Shallowford. Restaurants and shops thrive on land that was a strategic site in Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign during the Civil War. The city honors United Stated Navy Commodore Stephen Decatur with its name and treasures its historic city hall. Agnes Scott College is situated on more than 90 acres. This women’s private liberal arts college was established in 1889 and within walking distance of downtown Decatur.
