Being close to the airport is cool but having a park (there are three) or rec center (four) at almost every turn is even better. College Park was founded as Atlantic City in 1890 as a depot on the Atlanta and West Point Railroad. It was named Manchester when it was incorporated as city in 1891 and renamed again as the City of College Park in 1896. The beautiful Historic District got its name from it being the home of Cox College and Georgia Military Academy (now Woodward Academy). The streets are named for Ivy league colleges or influential College Park residents, making giving directions more fun. The neighborhood golf course was established in 1929; it, along with a private school, Woodward Academy, give residents every reason to stay and play.
